چکیده
γ-Valerolactone (GVL) is a platform chemical for the synthesis of both biofuels and biochemicals. The LA production from depithed sugarcane bagasse (DSB) resulted in 55% yield, resulting was used to produce GVL. effect process parameters, namely, temperature (25–200 °C), time (2–10 h), catalyst loading (0.5–5 g) were investigated GVL LA. Thereafter, optimized conditions derived yielded 77.6%. hydrogen required reduction formed situ by formic acid triethylamine presence methanesulfonic (MsOH). Different solvents (including water alcohols) also tested determine their on highest 78.6%. types catalysts, which included mineral acids ionic liquids, provide benchmark against MsOH. yield DSB-derived 1.0% lower than commercial sample generated DSB has potential replace fossil fuel-derived

Catalytic Conversion of Biomass-derived Carbohydrates into 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural using a Strong Solid Acid Catalyst in Aqueous γ-Valerolactone
Selective conversion of biomass-derived carbohydrates into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is of great significance for biomass conversion. In this study, a novel solid Brønsted acid was prepared simply by the copolymerization of paraformaldehyde and p-toluenesulfonic acid and then used to catalyze the conversion of various carbohydrates into HMF in γ-valerolactone-water (GVL/H2O) reaction medium...
متن کاملConversion of levulinic acid into γ-valerolactone using Fe3(CO)12: mimicking a biorefinery setting by exploiting crude liquors from biomass acid hydrolysis.
The conversion of biomass-derived levulinic acid (LA) into gamma-valerolactone (GVL) using formic acid (FA) and Fe3(CO)12 as the catalyst precursor was achieved in 92% yield. To mimic a biorefinery setting, crude liquor (containing 20% LA) from the acid hydrolysis of sugarcane biomass in a pilot plant facility was directly converted into GVL in good yield (50%), without the need for isolating LA.
متن کاملConversion of Alcohols into Amides Using Alumina-Methanesulfonic Acid (AMA) in Nitrile Solvents
The reaction of tertiary, secondary and benzylic alcohols with different nitriles in the presence of alumina-methanesulfonic acid (AMA) as a new reagent affords the corresponding amides in good yields (Table 1, 2). Conversion of 2,6-bis(hydroxymethyl)-4-halo anisoles into corresponding diamides in the range of 68-76% yields (Table 3) are also included in this paper.
متن کاملConversion of Levulinic Acid to γ-Valerolactone over Few-Layer Graphene-Supported Ruthenium Catalysts
Few-layer graphene (FLG) supported ruthenium nanoparticle catalysts were synthesized and used for the hydrogenation of levulinic acid (LA), one of the “top 10” biomass platform molecules derived from carbohydrates. FLG-supported ruthenium catalyst showed 99.7% conversion and 100% selectivity toward γ-valerolactone (GVL) at room temperature in a batch reactor under high-pressure hydrogen. This c...
متن کاملSelective hydrogenation of levulinic acid to γ-valerolactone using in situ generated ruthenium nanoparticles derived from Ru-NHC complexes.
Hydrogenation of levulinic acid (LA) to γ-valerolactone (GVL) was studied by using mono- and bidentate p-cymene ruthenium(ii) N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes as catalyst precursors. In water, all complexes were found to be reduced in situ to form ruthenium nanoparticles (RuNPs) with a high hydrogenation activity. In organic solvents, complexes with monodentate NHC ligands also formed nan...
